1967-1975: The Jackson 5 Jet, Old Layout
The fame and notoriety that McCray received from his elephant stunt inspired him to do more. He became the most famous tagger in Philly by tagging places that no one else would dare to even dream of touching. Cornbread saw another opportunity when the Jackson 5, one of the biggest acts of the 1970s, came to visit Philadelphia. While the band signed autographs at the Philadelphia International Airport, McCray noticed that everyone’s attention was on Michael, Jackie, Tito, Marlon and Jermaine: no one was looking at their jet. Seizing his chance, McCray climbed up the stairs leading to the jet and tagged Cornbread on the wing of the plane, without anyone in the crowd noticing. From the safety of the airport terminal, he watched the jet take off again and saw his tag flying through the sky. This event got national attention, making him a household name from Philadelphia to Los Angeles.
